Kansas FFA Career Development Event

As members of the K-State College of Agriculture, Popenoe Entomology Club is proud to support the education of Kansas Future Farmers of America (FFA) students by coordinating the States Entomology Career Development Event (CDE).

We annually organize and administer the Kansas State FFA Entomology CDE, as well as provide study materials for FFA chapters to help prepare for the exam.

We sell insect kits.

The current collection of insects included in our kits, plus specimens in vials.

Popenoe Club FFA Insect Collections

Our members collect common species which are found around Kansas and curate these into collections containing about 86 specimens. These specimens are pinned or placed into vials, labeled with numbers, and shipped to interested chapters.

We are a student-run club. Kit availability and shipping timelines depend on our schedules and inventory. We kindly ask that prospective customers be patient as we process orders.

NEW: please note that we’ve updated our list starting Fall 2022 to contain 10 new specimens, which can be bought in our new “Miniature Update Kits” if you already have a previous kit. Our complete kits now contain 86 specimens.

F.A.Q.

  • FFA is a youth organization specializing in agriculture education (https://www.ffa.org/about/). The state Career Development Exam (CDE) is hosted by our club for chapters around Kansas that proceed past regionals.

  • Our kits usually contain 70+ specimens. Small or delicate specimens are shipped in vials with alcohol while large specimens are pinned. We charge $110 for a complete kit, with discounts for missing specimens (as determined by our inventory).

  • Use the form below or email us at popenoe@ksu.edu. We are students and will respond to your request when able. You can submit a tax exempt form to us at this time as well.

  • Our members work hard to get these kits constructed and shipped in a timely manner. However, we may delay shipments if we are lacking needed specimens. Vials contain 70% ethyl alcohol and we are required to overnight these. Vials may be shipped separately to reduce our club’s shipping costs.

  • We plan to offer “kit updates” and replacement specimens. We are currently building up our inventory to make this as smooth as possible.

Our team has been working hard to digitize our current specimens. Study materials are now available as an economical alternative to our physical kits, or as a supplementary resource. Available for $40/each.
