Mudge Week Art & Photo Contest at the Manhattan Arts Center

The Popenoe Entomology Club is calling for submissions for the annual Bug Art and Photo Contest to be held during Mudge Week 2025 (March 31—April 4).
Mudge Week is organized annually to celebrate entomology in honor of Benjamin F. Mudge, a beloved K-State professor of Entomology.
This year, PEC is partnering with the Manhattan Arts Center to display all of the submissions at the Center during Mudge Week. This competition has categories open to club members as well as the public (which includes Faculty, Staff, and everyone in the greater Manhattan community). All submissions should feature insects and/or their relatives!

Submissions are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until each category is full (due to limited gallery space) or until February 28. Artwork and photos can be submitted physically or digitally.

About the Contest
This year the Popenoe Entomology Club is partnering with the Manhattan Arts Center for its Annual Mudge Week Art and Photo Contest. Mudge Week is a weeklong celebration of entomology named in honor of Benjamin F. Mudge, a beloved K-State professor of entomology. All contest submissions will be displayed in a gallery at the Manhattan Arts Center for the duration of Mudge Week 2025 (March 31—April 4). Submissions will be subject to voting and the winners will announced at our Mudge Week Awards Ceremony on Friday, April 4 at 3:30pm in Waters Hall Room 231.
Eligibility & Categories
The contest is open and free to all. There is no fee to enter. Only one art and one photo submission will be accepted per person. The categories are as follows:

PEC Members are defined in the Popenoe Entomology Club Constitution as:
A KSU student that shares the PEC’s mission and abides by the decisions as voted on by the club
Participates in club activities and events and attends at a minimum 1 hour of club meetings or sponsored outreach or FFA activities per semester
Public categories are open to all other KSU students, faculty, staff, and members of the greater community.
Art is defined as any original artwork featuring insects and their relatives (spiders, scorpions, ticks, etc.). A photo is defined as any original picture taken of a live or preserved insect and their relatives (spiders, scorpions, ticks, etc.) that has minimal artistic editing (basic editing such as cropping, adjusting lighting, etc., is allowed).
How to Enter
Due to space limitations, submissions are limited to 8x10 inches in size. Digital and physical submissions are accepted. To enter, please fill out the entry form here: https://forms.office.com/r/NXwZ6R03Jt and indicate whether your submission is physical, digital, or both. For physical submissions, please wait to be contacted by the club to arrange a drop off.
For digital art and photos, please send your submission via email to popenoe@ksu.edu. Digital art and photos will be printed as submitted (i.e., no changes will be made to your submission aside from minor scale changes for framing). Digital art and photo submissions, as well as physical submissions that are not already framed or on a canvas, will be framed in a standard black 8x10-inch frame. Following the closing of the gallery, contestants will have the option to claim their artwork back within 2 weeks, after which the art will be considered a donation to the club.
Contest Deadline
Submissions will be accepted from December 13 until February 28. Gallery space is limited, so submissions will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the category is full. Early submission is strongly encouraged!
Voting
Voting will open at the Mudge Week Art Gallery Kickoff on Monday, March 31. Voting QR codes will be available at the Manhattan Arts Center and emailed to club members and contestants. Voting will close at 9am on April 4 so that votes can be tallied for the Awards Ceremony. Votes are limited to one vote per person. In the event of a tie, both winners will be recognized.

Any scenario not listed herein will be at the discretion of the Popenoe Entomology Club Mudge Week Committee.
